WARRINGTON

WATERFRONT

What could a rejuvenated Warrington waterfront look like?

MAKE WARRINGTON A "NATIONAL PARK TOWN"

There is a movement gaining momentum in its quest to create "national park cities":

" National Park Cities are a way to rethink cities, their futures and how we inhabit them. They will improve the health of their citizens and play their part in stabilising our common climate, and restoring the natural world. Our aim is for there to be at least 25 National Park Cities by 2025."

National Park City Foundation

Why not lead the way for "National Park Towns" as well? There would be a lot of work to do, but (at the moment) Warrington's greatest asset is its access to stunning natural green space.

 ALLEY GARDENS

Sign up to this great initiative - with the intended purpose to:

  • Make stronger communities – with more active citizens working together to tackle their problems.

  • Achieve healthier and more active people and communities.

  • Improve the Environment

 USE WARRINGTON WATERWAYS

Warrington has an abundance of waterways - from the River Mersey to the Manchester Ship Canal; from Sankey Brook to the Bridgewater Canal. Why not work to develop countryside cycle and walking routes better linking North, South, East and West

This could be a key to creating a "National Park Town"

Have a look at the Canal & River Trust website and the work they are doing to help create waterfront pathways here

GLAMPING AND OUTDOOR LIVING

With so many (at present) areas of attractive green and blue landscape and Warrington's proximity (at present) to stunning open countryside, we could encourage investment from business in outdoor living and camping destinations, perhaps working with groups like Green Angels to create outdoor experiences for all ages and abilities.

Eco lodges, yurts, outdoor kitchens, woodland cafes and relaxation areas could be added to selected sites for recreation and healthy living

OUTDOOR CINEMAS - WHATEVER THE WEATHER

Warrington has a number of parks and green spaces that could lend themselves to more outdoor events - we see outdoor cinema events everywhere, but we haven't seen any in Warrington. Yet...

COMMISSION LOCAL ARTISTS TO HELP MAKE OUR PUBLIC REALM MORE INTERESTING

Public art, attractive and quirky street furniture, tiny detailed and creative additions to our buildings in the public realm - can all show us that our shared spaces matter.

 CREATE NEW TOWN CENTRE

LANDMARKS

Iconic buildings, popular structures and recognisable landscapes can help to anchor a place, and provide a sense of history and indentity.

It would benefit the town economically, socially and psychologically if Warrington were to move away from generic building design, bland housing developments and unimaginative streetscapes and instead work towards creating a place that is interesting, safe, fun and most importantly - visited!
